Carefree Truth

Issue #231, March 30, 2013

The Council voted to renew the annual Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with Maricopa County and the State of Arizona for the Disaster Management Plan, at a cost of $820.61.  Gary Neiss said it's a boilerplate agreement, then handed to presentation over to Rural/Metro Chief John Kraetz.

Chief Kraetz explained that, as in the past, they would operate under the umbrella of Maricopa County emergency management, which provides free training to the Chief and his staff, and to any interested members of the Carefree Council.  There is a new and very sophisticated platform for managing emergencies, developed by Maricopa County, which would allow remote viewing of the cascading effects of disaster operations throughout the Metropolitan area and even beyond the County.

He feels a vital aspect of this IGA is that, as the Town's representative, he gets monthly "face time" during training programs and events.  Should the worst occur, he knows who to call, and they know who's calling.  He asserted that this is money well spent.
